It's simply a repetitive beating down the characters. Even in real life people get things right sometimes, but no one seems to learn from their previous mistakes in this story. There is no overcoming faults in this story, there are only failures and going to the second option. It feels, to me, like the idea of having characters fail to realize their potential is all this author knows how to do. This novel does things with it's characters that seem designed to defeat the entire purpose of writing a solidly continuing story.

I would rather not spoil it for anyone who might enjoy this so I will not go into details.

I don't very often write reviews, but I have to say that this novel ruined the entire series for me.
